this is the story of two workers at ness technologies, ilia terman, who started working at ness two months ago, and hila maron, the recruitment coordinator who hired him. both of them found their jobs at ness through the jobnet site.
hila marom, 25, a chemical technologist currently completing a master's degree in sociology and anthropology, began working at ness 11 months ago as a recruitment assistant. five months later she was promoted to the post of recruitment coordinator.
twenty-six-year-old ilia terman is married and has one child. he started working at ness two months ago as a software tester for one of ness' major clients, through an outsourcing arrangement.
recruitment manager dorit bar-yosef describes the company:
ness technologies is a global company that provides it services and solutions. founded in 1999 following a merger of several companies, today ness has 7,800 employees in 18 countries, including 3,000 in israel. the employees work on various computer projects in a wide range of geographical locations. we have a large development center in be'er sheva, a college that runs training programs in a broad range of high-tech fields and numerous projects around the country.
ness specializes in several areas – outsourcing, software development, software testing, project management, applications development, training, etc. – which allows us a very broad range of positions and numerous opportunities for advancement and mobility within the company.

before hila came to ness, she worked at a placement company in haifa. after deciding to move to tel aviv, she proceeded to look for work in the central region.
on the job-search process:
hila: i did most of my searching through the jobnet site, which i had been familiar with from my prior job as a placement coordinator. at my previous job we worked extensively with jobnet and i had positive memories of these ties, so when i started job-hunting i turned to jobnet. searching the site is very easy because you can search according to professions, see when the newest positions were updated and run searches according to region. i focused on positions in the field of human resources.
ilia's previous job was at pelephone, but between the two jobs he spent his time taking an academic preparatory course. now he is continuing his studies in computer sciences at ariel college while working at ness.
ilia: i conducted my search on the internet and i sent my resume via jobnet. i looked for a job in software testing and a job that would give me a career boost in the future.
where did you first hear about jobnet?
ilia: that question is a bit hard for me to answer because today anybody who's exposed to the internet world is familiar with the site. it's a large, leading site that everyone knows about.
dorit, on recruitments via jobnet:
at ness we have hundreds of job openings and we advertise many positions on the jobnet site. our cooperation with jobnet is excellent. it's the leading site as far as we're concerned and it provides us with good resumes. every month we recruit people who come to us through jobnet. not a month goes by without us hiring an employee who came from jobnet.
on the job-hunting period:
ilia: i started searching toward the end of my preparatory course, after the exams. my serious searching lasted three months. i went to just about every interview i was called in for – and there were a lot of them. i didn't reject any company. when i went into ness for the interview there were a number of other positions for which i was at various stages of the hiring process.
what made you decide in favor of ness?
ilia: what tipped the scales in ness' favor was the feeling i got. from a professional standpoint the position i applied for here was more appealing than at other places, but first and foremost, the deciding factor was the way i was treated during the recruitment process, in addition to the professional challenge and experience i'm able to acquire here.
hila: during my job-search i was still living and studying in haifa and it wasn't easy for me to go to interviews in the central region. therefore i was looking for a position that would allow me a certain degree of flexibility. ness allowed me this flexibility. the process was fast and pleasant, and within two weeks i had already started working here.
on the integration process:
ilia: after a series of professional interviews, first at ness and later with the client, i went to a human resources interview and a credibility assessment. soon afterwards i was notified i'd been accepted and within less than a week i started working.
one of the things that really characterizes ness is that they don't stretch things out. the moment they decide it's right they close very quickly. the entire process is very pleasant and efficient.
on my first day on the job at ness i was called in for a full day of activities – meetings with managers, logistics, human resources, etc. – and a lot of information that's conveyed in a pleasant and inviting way.
hila: i came from a very small company and when i arrived at ness i was delighted by the integration process here. the coordinator who took me in presented me with the integration process, which included meetings with recruitment coordinators, each of whom told me about the job. i was even paired with a personal mentor throughout the integration and breaking-in period, and was really impressed with the whole way the process was run. it's something you don't find at every company.
on working at ness:
hila: i started working at ness as a recruitment assistant, which involved mostly screening resumes and conducting phone interviews with job candidates. after five months i got promoted to the post of recruitment coordinator.
what does your present job as recruitment coordinator include?
hila: every coordinator works with a different division, each of which is involved in a different field. i work in testing. the job entails passing on suitable resumes to the professional managers, conducting human resources interviews, preparing salary offers and integrating new employees. it's a really varied and challenging job, and i'm very happy with it.
ilia on his job as a software tester:
ilia: my job focuses primarily on a product related to both hardware and software, a very complex, interesting system, part of which i test. since the product is aimed at different markets and since i'm a russian-speaker, i can contribute in ways that go beyond the strict boundaries of my job, which makes me a partner in some very interesting things.
how does it feel to work in outsourcing and to be located at the client site?
ilia: it depends a lot on which company you're working for. before coming to ness i worked in outsourcing and the feeling here is much better than the feeling i had at my prior job. it comes across primarily in the way i'm treated. i've barely been here for two months and during this time ness personnel have already visited me several times. i'm constantly in direct contact with everything that goes on here and ness has already sent me to a very interesting, professional course on software testing. also, i'm not alone here since the staff i work on has other ness employees.
do you see yourselves staying at ness and developing your careers?
ilia: the job i'm doing provides me a lot in terms of my professional advancement. there are also a lot of opportunities for advancement at ness. this is a company that really supports promoting employees and responding to their requests. that was one of my considerations when i chose to work at ness. there's a very broad range of positions here and many opportunities available. i think that advancement at the organization depends on the employee, his responsibility and how he proves himself.
hila: it's an excellent organization to work at. i'm very proud of the place i work for. it's fun working at a company that everybody has heard of and i definitely see myself growing and developing here.
to wrap things up, two recommendations for jobseekers:
hila: i recommend that jobseekers who are candidates for a certain job examine the entire set of factors, not just the salary conditions. salary is just one component of the job offer. components that are no less important include the company's reputation, its stability and opportunities for advancement at the company.
ilia: first of all, don't give up. job-hunting is a very delicate matter. i know people who have been looking for work for months, including people with experience. every interview you sit through, even if unsuccessful, gives you a chance to learn something and acquire experience that can be very important in the future. with all due respect to professional experience, you also have to know how to present yourself in an interview. my advice is to learn from every interview.
