Success Story – Hagar Ben Peretz, Technical Support Person, Merlin Communications

hagar, 30, is married and has one child. she has a diploma in naturotherapy and is currently studying for another bachelor's degree in chemistry. six months ago she began working in technical support at merlin. 

recalls hagar:
"i studied naturothereapy for four years at the college of management in tel aviv. during my studies i worked at el al in shalom service [el al's vip department]. when i graduated i got pregnant and stayed at el al for the sake of convenience. after my maternity leave i went back to el al and at the same time i began studying chemistry. at the end of a five-year contract with el al, although they offered to extend my contract i decided to look for work in my field."

on the job-search process:
"the search process dragged on for five months since i was still working at el al. i couldn't devote much time to it because i was working at el al, i was a mother with a baby and i was studying for a degree, all at the same time. the only search engine i used during this period was jobnet. the only place i looked was in the weekend papers from time to time. i had heard about jobnet from friends, who warmly recommended it. i did a search in the field of chemistry – drug companies, drug promotion and everything related, and then miraculously i came across the merlin ad on jobnet, and i decided to send in my resume. that was the only ad that wasn't in my field at all."

so why did you decide to send your resume to merlin?
"i saw the merlin ad on jobnet and something about the ad beckoned to me, so i sent in my resume. actually i applied for a field that was very far from my profession. i had no experience in computers or internet, but surprisingly it drew me more than anything else."

what happened next?
"i got a call from merlin and i was called in for an interview, at first with the customer service manager and later with the ceo, yoni. there was chemistry between us right away. yoni, the ceo, took a huge gamble by hiring me because i had no experience and i was not tied to this field at all. they received a resume that had no connection to the fields the company is involved in and to what they were looking for. maybe something in my experience at el al was relevant because of the connection between service and technical support, but other than that i had to learn everything from scratch – the system, the internet world, the advertising world and the world of internet advertising."

on the company:
merlin communications ltd. was founded in 2004 and specializes in advertising and sales promotion via the internet using pay-per-click. the company was set up to provide an advanced solution for advertising in the field of search results – even for the smallest customer. the system merlin developed serves all customer sectors, both small businesses and institutions. in addition to small businesses merlin advertises for large companies as well: orange, cellcom, bank mizrahi, yashir insurance, aig, ista, yisrair, mitsubishi, etc. the concept that leads at merlin is the ease with which advertising is accomplished in light of its high effectiveness.

how were you taken in at merlin?
"when i came here six months ago we were six people, including yoni the ceo. today we're nine. it's a very small and young company, and as far as i'm concerned that was very attractive. the atmosphere here enchanted me from the start. also i saw, and i still see, the company's potential to develop and succeed. the idea the company is based on here is different and unique in the field of internet advertising and it’s a unique company with a far-reaching vision, not just in its particular area of enterprise, but in its approach to business in general."

on her job at the company:
"i work in the customer service and technical support department and at the same time i work on other projects. when i came to merlin, besides the area of technical support and customer service, i was also given projects related to our ad management on google. this project was very interesting and taught me a lot about everything related to advertising, internet, google and more. i also began to work on other company projects related to the development of the product."

on the atmosphere at the company:
"the atmosphere here is amazing. it's young, dynamic and fun. there's positive interaction among the people, true friendship. the people here are very high caliber. yoni, the ceo, gives his employees a lot of opportunities and credit. he's always open to new ideas and it's important to him to hear what we have to say.

"there's a lot of respect and encouragement that i haven't encountered elsewhere. the ceo's top priority is the good of the employees – that they're content, get gratification from their work and their professional development. it's very clear to see.

"what keeps me here with all the difficulty involved in combining a job, degree studies, being a mother and the fact that it's not really my field is the desire to develop with the company. besides the tremendous potential the company has and my desire to be a part of it in its initial stages, what motivates me is that it's fun working here. i have very good chemistry with everyone. we're small and intimate, like a sort of commune, but we're developing at lightning speed. that's the uniqueness of this company. i have a whole lot of motivation and ambition to stay at the company for a long time, to contribute, to receive and to grow together.
