Success Story – Ziv Levine, Customer and Project Manager, Avnet Ltd

ziv levine found his job at avnet information systems security and risk management through the jobnet site. he began working at the company about six months ago.

ziv, 29, began his career as a systems analyst at israel railways. there he first encountered the field of information security. he worked for a year and a half at israel railways and from there made a move to cellcom, where he was employed as an information security expert.

ziv recalls:
“my first encounter with the field of information security was during my coursework. i studied for a bachelor’s degree in computer science at ben gurion university. my training is as a developer and it was clear to me from the start i didn’t want to work as a software man.
my first training in information security was at israel railways, but i didn’t officially belong to the field of information security, and because it was important to me to develop in this field i decided to look for another job. israel railways sent me to a course in the field at which i got to know the information security manager of cellcom and through him i arrived at cellcom. at cellcom i worked on information security proper and after a year and a half i decided i wanted to move forward. i wanted to advance to the next stage from a professional standpoint, so i started looking.”

on the job-search process:
“the search i conducted was highly focused, both in terms of the type of work and specific jobs and companies. since i made the decision to leave cellcom of my own volition, i decided to conduct a thorough search without any time constraints. i conducted the entire search process via the internet. only in the more advanced stages did i arrive at the companies themselves. i was familiar with jobnet through friends, who recommended it very highly. since i had almost never looked for a job in my life i was not aware of all the sites on the web and i only checked out sites about which i had heard positive reviews. on jobnet i looked for specific kinds of job in security information – project management, technology management and management in general.

“i was contacted by several companies and was called in for some 15 interviews at various companies. in the end i began processes at two companies. one of them was avnet. at avnet the process was very professional, efficient and quick and that was what eventually tipped the scales. within ten days we had signed a contract. i notified cellcom i was leaving and a month later i was already working here. the entire search process took about two months.”

founded in 1995, avnet is now israel’s leading company in integration consulting for computer systems security and protection of advanced e-commerce applications. the company has clients in israel and abroad in a broad range of sectors: banks, insurance, finance, government ministries, security industries, etc.

“the company currently has 50 employees, but we are in the process of growing. we plan to expand our outsourcing activity to all areas of security, which will lead to massive recruitment. this trend is already being felt. since the beginning of the year we have recruited nine employees. three of them, by the way, came to us through jobnet.”

ziv, on his job at avnet:
“my task at avnet is customer and project management. i manage the company’s biggest client, one of israel’s leading financial institutions.
i run all of avnet’s information security activity at this organization. this includes routine activities such as surveys for technological systems and various operational processes, routine management of the consultants at the organization on a permanent basis and managing all of the projects being carried out there. i divide my time between the client, which is located in tel aviv, and the office, which is in rishon letzion.”

on adjusting to avnet:
“the adjustment period at avnet was great. after six months here i have one of the most important jobs at the company. i can tell you that the absorption process here, in terms of both human resources and the employees at the company, was ideal. i received full assistance with every problem or uncertainty throughout the day. i was given a long and thorough breaking in period. i can say that after six months i feel comfortable and receive positive feedback from the client. that says a lot about the company.”

on the atmosphere at the company:
“avnet is a very amiable place. the biggest advantage of working at avnet is the interpersonal relations and the high-caliber people here. the first thing i noticed when i came here was the other employees’ desire to help and improve their own and the company’s level of knowledge, to do everything in their power to improve the company. i’m happy to be working at a place like this.”
