last september masha resnik, 27, found her job as a .net developer at dassault sytemes-israel ltd. through the jobnet site. just as she was finishing up her bachelor’s degree in software engineering at the jerusalem college of engineering she started working at a startup company in the field of cell-phone applications. three years later, and after acquiring much experience in .net, masha decided to look for a new job and a position with a broader range of responsibilities.

why did you decide to look for a new job?
“after three years at my first job as a developer at a startup company i had exhausted that avenue from a professional standpoint and felt a need for change and professional advancement. i sent out my resume in response to development jobs at large, stable companies.”

where did you send your resume to?
“my job-search process included disseminating my resume, especially through friends and job-search websites. i also sent copies of my resume directly to specific companies i was interested in, focusing on large firms. i liked the jobnet site because it allowed me to control the search process while focusing on companies and jobs that fit my wants, unlike looking through a placement company, which sent out information about me to numerous companies without any screening.”
which criteria did you take into account in sending out your resume?
“one of the considerations that guided me in looking for work was the type of company. i wanted to work at a large company that focuses on product development, rather than a software house that operates through outsourcing. i was also looking for a position as a developer on an up-to-date staff where i’d have an opportunity to deal with new technologies, study from senior programmers more experienced than me and advance professionally. another consideration was logistical – i preferred working in the sharon region, close to home.”
what drew you to the field of .net?
“.net is a challenging field, primarily because of the innovativeness and the capabilities it offers. when i came to the company i had three years’ experience and i wanted to get exposed to new, more up-to-date technologies in the field. i was really happy to find a .net job that matched my abilities to a tee. this was the most relevant job ad, both in terms of my ambitions and in terms of the know-how i’d acquired over the years.”
what kind of a response did you get from companies? did you explore other options as well?
“i conducted a focused search, not settling for just any position. i was going through the recruitment process at three other companies and even received a final offer from one of them. after conducting a brief inquiry into the company among my friends and on the web, i decided to pass up the offer. the hiring process at dassault systemes-israel took several weeks and was professional and orderly. during the course of the process i was interviewed a number of times, including a series of professional interviews, a human resources interview and a professional logics test.”
how was your integration at dassault systemes-israel handled?
“the integration process at dassault systemes is structured and orderly, including general guidance by the human resources manager on company guidelines and by an it department representative on technical aspects. i was assigned to a tight-knit and pleasant work team where i was provided close professional mentoring by the managers and senior programmers on the new technologies related to my job. i also took a three-day orientation course about the company during which representatives from the various departments provided us information about the primary operations in each department.”
what is your job of .net developer at dassault systemes-israel all about?
“i work with a team that’s developing a new version of dassault systemes’ plm product. another developer and i are responsible for the customer’s side of the program. plm is considered one of the foundation stones of information systems at modern organizations, along with enterprise resource planning (erp), supply chain management (scm) and customer relations management (crm).”
what is plm?
“plm includes a whole system of computerized tools that serve engineers, designers and product developers in all fields of industry, from the concept stage through production and sales and support. it’s an information-rich process managed by systems that ‘know how to communicate’ with the various phases of the process, e.g. 2d and 3d design and planning, managing changes, managing communications with suppliers and customers, transmitting information among various entities involved in the process and more.”
what kind of a company is dassault systemes-israel in terms of how you’re treated and the atmosphere there?
“it’s a unique company from every perspective, notable for exceptional know-how and professionalism. the employees and manager are experienced in their fields, and as a developer just starting out at the company i have a mentor and assistance from highly expert programmers, and i’m growing professionally from day to day. also, a lot goes into employee benefits and working conditions. the management deals with the employees in a very professional manner, with interaction between the team members and the other departments. every decision is made through full collaboration.”
do you feel you’ve arrived at the place that’s right for you?
“dassault systemes has given me a professional opportunity, as a part of the team doing software development with the newest technologies in the market. also, the company invests a lot in its personnel and makes a point of enriching them through training and lectures, both professionally and experientially, and organizes various outings and social events during the course of the year.”
do you have any recommendations for jobseekers?
“i think it’s important to first define exactly what you’re looking for, with a focus on certain fields and companies. it’s a shame to waste valuable time on job interviews at companies that don’t offer what’s right for you.”
noa nafshi-geller, human resources manager at dassault systemes-israel, to what extent does your cooperation with the jobnet site contribute to you?
“jobnet serves as a unique and central recruitment source among the various job-search websites. our positions are posted and updated on the site all the time. many high-caliber employees like masha were hired through the jobnet site, which provides us the most efficient recruitment solutions available.”
